France or England Clear Favorites?

Gareth Southgate’s young and promising England team appear to be confusing the bookies, and the punters as some sportsbooks have the Three Lions as favorites. This is likely because Group F is so unpredictable with France, Germany, and Portugal in the same group. However, if France gets through unscathed, it is highly likely ‘Les Bleus’ will go all the way.

That said, if France struggle in the group of the death, then there is every chance this paves the way for England to win their first-ever European trophy. And, there are some key points as to why the bookies have backed England to go all the way.

England plays all group games at Wembley Stadium – England’s largest football ground. Furthermore, if the Three Lions make it to the semi-finals, then all games from here on out will be played at Wembley. With England playing in front of their home fans, this will give them a tremendous advantage.

The team gained invaluable experience from their World Cup 2018 and Nations League semi-final appearances, so they are no strangers to pressure. Plus, with an army of rising stars, this is perhaps England’s best chance of winning a first major international trophy since the 1966 World Cup.

As for England’s excellent odds, these could just turn out to be flattering for such an inexperienced team. There is no doubt England has great things to come in the future. Yet, it is probably too early, and too much of an ask given the current average age of the squad.

Euro 2020 Value Bets – Who Are the Dark Horses?

Betting on England being triumphant isn’t exactly value for money given the squad is made up of mostly youngsters. However, if you are looking for a value bet, then arguably Italy and Belgium are the dark horses in this competition and certainly worth a shout.

Italy

Under new management, the four-time World Cup winners have not been beaten this year, won ten out of ten games in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying stage, and recorded an impressive haul of 33 goals in those ten games.

If you are still not sure, then Italy will line up versus one of the bookies’ favourites England at Wembley on the 27th March, and following this, the Italians will face Germany in Nuremberg 4 days after so you can get a good look at how they perform versus the Euro 2020 tournament’s big guns in two mouth-watering pre-tournament international friendly games.

Belgium

Belgium is another good outside bet. Their odds are not great, but their chances of winning are high. With the likes of Hazard, Lukaku, De Bruyne, and Dembélé, this is one of the best Belgium sides we have seen in years.

To add further fuel to the fire, this is the same team that knocked out Word Cup 2018 favourites Brazil in the quarter-finals. On top of this, Belgium topped their qualifying group with 40 goals scored and ten wins out of 10.

Group Stage Predictions World Cup 2020

The group stage draw was virtually concluded in Dublin at the end of November, but still not 100% confirmed as we wait for the play-off winners so we can get a good look at the final groups. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any decent betting opportunities because it is already looking quite clear which teams will progress barring Group F’s ‘group of death’.

Group A: Italy looks sure to dominate their group leaving Switzerland, Turkey, and Wales to ponder on. Ex-Manchester United and Wales international Ryan Giggs’ Wales could be worth an outside bet to qualify.

Group B: Belgium are the favourites to progress, and most likely, Denmark. Russia’s team looks to be out of sought lately, while Finland will be Denmark’s main worry. The good news for Denmark is that the team will be playing at home in the Parken Stadium – Copenhagen giving them the advantage.

Group C: The group is still not fully decided with the fourth team still not confirmed. The Netherlands should easily top the group playing at home in the Johan Cruijff Aren – Amsterdam. Ukraine will likely come second, and even though Austria is a good side coming second in their Euro Qualifiers group, Ukraine topped their group convincingly!

Group D: England are most bookies and pundits second-favourites to win the tournament. That said, it will be difficult to predict the winners of this group as Croatia have already proven they can beat England after the World Cup 2018 semi-finals. However, England is one of the host nations and play all their group games at Wembley.

Group E: Spain is expected to top the group easily being another host nation playing all their games on home turf. This leaves the main tussle for the runners-up spot between Sweden and Poland. Sweden played in the same qualifying group as Spain and came second just 5 points off ‘La Furia Roja’ (Spain), while Poland came top of their qualifying group making this a tough group to predict the runners-up.

Group F: The ‘Group of Death’ is anyone’s for the taking. Much like Group E, France should come away with at least 4 points from their Germany and Portugal games. That leaves the runners up spot to be decided when Germany play Portugal. Most likely Germany will take it as all their group games will be played in the Football Arena Munich.

Predict Euro 2020 Top Scorers

One of the most difficult bets to place in a Euro 2020 tournament is predicting the top scorers. We all have our favourites, but it is all down to which teams with the best goal scorers will progress.

Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is always up there as one of the favourites, but Portugal’s chances of progressing slim as they must overcome a World Cup winning French side and a German team playing at their home stadium. If Portugal does progress, Ronaldo is likely to notch up a decent goal tally as he did during the Euro 2020 qualifiers coming second with 11 goals. Ronaldo is also joint second top goalscorer with Lukaku in the Italian Serie A.

Harry Kane

Kane has been on form lately for both club and country. He has notched up 15 goals for Tottenham in the world’s most challenging league and 25 goals in 40 games for England. The team will surely progress as group winners or runners-up, giving Kane every chance to notch up a healthy goal tally. He also won the World Cup 2018 Golden boot, and he was the top scorer during the Euro 2020 qualifiers with 12 goals.

Kylian Mbappe

The French hitman is currently third in the French Ligue One with nine goals and four assists. Although he has scored over 100 career goals at the age of just 21, and he has already notched up 13 goals in 34 games for France. On top of this, he won the golden boot in the French league during the 2018/19 season. France look set to go far in the tournament and goals from the French talisman are sure to play a part in the country’s side to win the Euro 2020.

Romelu Lukaku

It might come as a surprise that Lukaku is even being considered alongside the likes of Mbappe and Ronaldo, but his recent form since his summer switch from Man U to Inter Milan has proven successful. He is currently on ten goals in Serie A alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
